Charles Matthew Cock (1895-1971)
President of the Institution of Locomotive Engineers
Charles Matthew Cock was born in 1895 in Australia. He undertook his engineering apprenticeship in the Newport workshops in Victoria, Australia.
In 1914 he enlisted in the Australian Naval and Military Expedition Force and served in the British Royal Navy as an engineer throughout the First World War.
Cock was appointed as traction engineer for the Great Indian Peninsular Railway in 1929.
