Roger Smith's notebook

Journal and accounts of Roger Smith, 1848-1854, apparently a foreman or supervisor for works undertaken on behalf of the Railway. Records, date and title of task with details such as the number of men required, location and description of work for example, "on the summit tunnel...Burnley line". As such, it provides a detailed schedule of work undertaken. Smith notes several contractors for railway building, including Joseph Thornton of Kettleworth Hall, Wakefield and William McCormick. Mostly works were conducted in association with Mr. Patterson; in the building of the West Riding extensions, Low Moor to Bradford and the Cleckheaton branch, Low Moor to Mirfield.

Also, dairy-like entries for Smith's activities detailing his whereabouts, who he was meeting and why. The notebook has a gap between pages 3-7.
