LNER snowplough

LNER snowplough

London and North Eastern Railway snowplough with new angle, trial at Bishop Auckland, 13 Jan 1933.

"The newest kind of snowploughs are being prepared for immediate use at Bishop Auckland, Durham, by the LNER in readiness for the snow which is expected by the weather experts. During the winter of 1926-7 men who manned the ploughs were storm-stayed for two days in the higher reaches of the dales, and since then precautions have been taken against the repetition of such an occurrence. The newest snowploughs have a streamlined appearance and look like the bows of a ship"
