27 Jan. Three Presidents Meeting to be expanded to include three members from each institution, with Secretary.

24 Feb.  Review of standard letters for membership applications and proposed student recruitment drive. Christopher Hinton presents memorandum on improvements to The Chartered Mechanical Engineer.

23 Mar. Nuclear Energy Panel to hold Conference.

27 Apr. Information to be gathered on salaries of professional engineers. Doubts over sandwich course for sixth-formers. Inaugural meeting of Australian Branch to be held.

25 May.  Report presented on 'The Practical Training of Engineers '. Recommendations from Travelling Expenses Panel.

27 Jul. Memorandum by Sir Robert Owen Jones introducing the section of the Finance and House Committee report dealing with development of adjoining property, with appointment of Christopher Hinton to Committee for investigating long-term planning. Review of Structure of the Specialist Groups of the Institution. Draft programme of London meetings 1960/61.

26 Oct. Submission to Whitehall for changes in By-laws [pamphlet inserted]. Notes on Practical Training in Australia and Canada. European and United States Engineering Council (EUSEC) recommendations on members societies approved. Concerns over reporting discussions in informal meetings. 23 Nov. Possibility of having a joint Part 1 examination with other engineering societies. Contracts signed for alterations to 3, Birdcage Walk. Institution loses appeal to House of Lords for exemption from rates under Scientific Societies Act. Nominations to various British Standards Institution Committees and concern over the work of the BSI.

14 Dec. EUSEC to prepare brochure on the Conference and its member societies. Industrial Administration and Engineering Production Group Committee meet and plan extensive informal discussions: copy of Rules for the Groups of the Institution and Scope of the Rules.
