17 Feb.  Dispute with Ministry of Works over plans for adjoining property.

23 Mar. Possible Institution membership of Federation Internationale des Societes d'Ingenieurs et de Techniciens de l'Automobile.

20 Apr. Conditions attached to Institution relief from rates under Scientific Societies Act. List of bodies to which President and Secretary are ex officio members.

25 May. Consensus of Council over subscriptions and reduced rates for retired members. Further discussion on rating and development of new site.

27 Jul. Death of Henry Guy. Full 1957 programme of General Meetings and Conferences, and Informal Meetings. Formal letter to Ministry of Works requesting vacant possession of adjoining property in order to proceed with demolition.

19 Oct. Further negotiations with Ministry of Works and building plans at Birdcage Walk and Old Queen Street Experimental Technical College day-release for sixth-form boy in Nottingham. Russian views of high status of engineering amongst the professions.

16 Nov. Assessment of National Certificate standards in Northern Ireland. Financial problems of Institution. Appointment of representative to Permanent International Association of Road Congresses. Rules for Local Committees Overseas.

14 Dec. Portrait of Robert Stephenson to be loaned for artist to make copy. Special Meeting to be held on By-laws, letters from Secretary (Brian Robbins) and President (T.A. Crowe).
