Meetings were usually held in Birmingham but occasionally at Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield or the London Committee Rooms at Great George Street. Council members included John Fernie, Edward Alfred Cowper, Sampson Lloyd and Henry Maudslay. Finance Committee minutes and accounts are included. Items of note include: list of members contributing to the Paris Industrial Exhibition, 1862; condolence to Queen Victoria on death of Prince Albert; proposals for finding new site for Institution, possibly in London; proposals to hold a Paris Industrial Exhibition meeting investigated by John Penn; patent discussions; and railway investments for example, in London and North Western Railway.
