George Stephenson's railway letters

This collection includes letters by George Stephenson and Robert Stephenson (mainly George) discussing topics such as manufacture; surveying; job prospects; and tunnelling beneath Liverpool (Wapping Tunnel). Conversation also turns to the Liverpool and Manchester Railway; Canterbury and Whitstable Railway; Nantlle Railway; Stockton and Darlington Railway; North Midlands Railway; and Manchester and Leeds Railway. Letters are addressed to Thomas Richardson, Michael Longridge and Thomas Gooch (Manchester and Leeds Railway).
