Manager's Notebook 1899-1901

Frederick Lanchester's managerial notebook is the first managers book of the Company. The notes and sketches are largely in the hand of Lanchester and arranged chronologically, with sections by George Herbert Lanchester and Sidney Pinsent, Chief Draughtsman. Probably used at the Armourer Mills works, Montgomery Street, Sparkbrook, Birmingham. The notebook starts on page 5.

Covers: speed epicycle gear box; specifications of materials and special tools; spring calculations; helical gears for crankshaft and countershaft; disc surface grinder; camshaft bracket drill jig; calculations for metering lubricating oil; log of test runs for car number 8 (and subsequent notes on car numbers 7, 8 and 9); progressing of components of gears and countershafts; tooling up for igniters gauges and jigs; and coachwork. Each seciton has been divided after the fact, possibly by George Lanchester.
