Cherry Hill's William Batho Road Roller model was completed in 1986 after approximately 6,000 hours of work. It is based upon the 25-ton machine designed by Batho and manufactured by Thomas Astbury & Son. To inform her work, Cherry carried out extensive research at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the London Tram Museum, where she took measurements from a similar engine. It was the 11th model she constructed, which resulted in her being awarded her third Duke of Edinburgh Award in 1990.
